The Leftist Assembly is a pan-leftist region in NationStates. It was founded on 14 January 2016 as a merger of The Communist Region and the Democratic Socialist Union. It is a member of the NSLeft, a left-wing interregional bloc that is the largest alliance in NationStates, and it is one of the largest and most active User-Created Regions in the game.

Government

Cabinet

The Cabinet is the executive of the region. It consists of the Secretary, directly elected by the region, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Information, Minister of Recruitment, and any other deputies and/or Ministers as appointed by the Secretary and approved by the region.

The Secretary is responsible for serving as the head of the Cabinet, with final decision-making power concerning its delegated responsibilities, and representing the region as its Delegate to the World Assembly. The Cabinet is responsible for advising the Secretary as relevant to each member's designated portfolio, assisting the Secretary in their responsibilities, and enforcing the laws enacted by the General Assembly.

The Secretary was elected at the regularly scheduled Secretarial election. Their term thus commenced on 12 June 2022 and is expected to conclude on 11 September 2022. No other Cabinet positions have fixed terms, though the region is constitutionally mandated to always have at least a Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Information, and Minister of Recruitment.

General Assembly

The General Assembly is the legislature of the region. It consists of seven Members of the General Assembly (MGAs), one of which is internally elected as Speaker.

The Speaker is responsible for organising the activities of the General Assembly, maintaining an order of legislation to be considered by the General Assembly, communicating information of bills, amendments, and voting records to the public, and representing the General Assembly to the Cabinet in matters requiring urgent and direct communication. The General Assembly is responsible for proposing, considering, and voting on new laws and amendments to existing laws.

All MGAs were elected at the regularly scheduled Legislative election. Their term thus commenced on 25 April 2022 and is expected to conclude on 25 July 2022.

Supreme Court

The Supreme Court is the judiciary of the region. It consists of three Standing Justices and one Alternate Justice appointed by the Secretary and approved by the region. The body internally elects one of its Standing Justices as Chief Justice, whereafter the remaining two Standing Justices are also known as Minor Justices.

The Chief Justice is responsible for organising and leading discussions with the Justices, and communicating judicial information to the public. The Supreme Court is responsible for issuing legal rulings as the highest authority on the interpretation of all regional law and handing down a verdict on each trial upon the conclusion of a fair and public hearing. The Alternate Justice provides a tiebreaker or stand-in vote in the event of an inconclusive verdict or a Standing Justice's inability to vote.

All Justices were confirmed by the region following the regularly scheduled Secretarial election. Their term commenced on 19 June 2022 and is expected to conclude with the confirmation of the next Justices in September 2022.

As of the release of the May 2021 census, the region has 614 nations, 268 of which are World Assembly members. The region is the 14th largest by total population (excluding puppet storage regions) and is the 14th largest by World Assembly population.

The region has a very young population, with 56.3% of the region aged 19 years old or younger, and another 31.8% aged between 20 and 24 years old.

Ideological affiliations are broad across the spectrum of left-wing politics in the region, with 42.1% identifying with democratic socialism, followed by anarchism with 36.4%, libertarian socialism with 29.9%, and Marxism with 29.0%.

Most citizens reside in predominantly English-speaking countries, with 37.8% in the United States, followed by 8.1% in the United Kingdom, and 3.6% in both Australia and Canada. The major non-English-speaking countries represented in the region are Italy, India, and Poland with 3.6% each, while the remaining 36.0% reside elsewhere.

The main non-English languages spoken by citizens are Spanish with 17.4%, French and German with 11.0% each, and Russian with 9.2%.

More than three-fifths (61.3%) of the region identify as male, while 18.0% identify as female, 11.7% identify as non-binary, and the remaining 15.3% identify as something other. The significant LGBT+ community in the region is also evident in data on sexual orientation, with 57.7% of the region identifying as non-heterosexual.
