History Edit

Erowok Agreement to Aristocracy (1406-1612) Edit

The region was once divided into various tribal nations living in hunter-gatherer societies. Tribes in the east allied with the west and formed a pact known as the Erowok Agreement, allowing for trade and strategic mutual defense in case of foreign interests imposing their will on Greylynians. The Erowok Agreement lasted until 1584, when a new ideological framework took shape among the tribes.

As agriculture became more prevalent and Greylynians began living closer together, the modus operandi shifted from an egalitarian society to aristocracy. Those who yielded more crops were thrusted to the upper echelons of the social hierarchy. As resources centralized with the “best” of Greylyn gaining a larger share of the economic output, a ruling class was solidified.

Governors were appointed to oversee different jurisdictions and religious leaders provided critical support in justifying this arrangement.  Around 1612, people became dissatisfied with this and rebelled against the system. They demanded that people ought to freely own their own estates without being compelled to give a portion of the yields to the aristocratic government.

More Social Upheaval (1612-1866) Edit

At this time, people also began to see the promise in industrializing and mass production of goods and people began arranging themselves in semi-private cooperative firms and farms continued to be owned by individual families, just without the aristocratic hierarchy.

Unfortunately, the richest family farms bought out the land from less profitable farms and the same was mirrored with the cooperative businesses. This created a lot of tension. On the political side of things, appointed Governors were replaced with elected councils and the wealthiest Greylynians began intermingling with the governments. This intermingling polarized the populace. Those cast to the lower echelons of society rebelled once again, demanding a new social order. This was known as the Greylynian Revolution lasted from 1864 -1866.

Greylynian Revolution Edit

The revolution began when a young Greylynian by the name of Alonso Castenada led the charge on Serrano Wineries, a wine manufacturer that held a monopoly on the wine industry. The winery was burned to the ground and Isaac Serrano was chased out of Rosemont, forever exiled. News of the arsonry spread quickly and more disaffected Greylynians began seizing major sectors and demanding that the government collectivize the economy. When the councils refused, Alonso and others stormed government offices and began forcing opposition out of cities and rural communities. “We want these pigs out of Greylyn now!” cried one demonstrator. However, it was not long before the General of the armed forces received word of this and mobilized the military and police to push back against the revolutionaries. This began the two year conflict known as the Revolution of 1864. Once the smoke cleared, the revolution was victorious, and the economy was fully collectivized and the market replaced with planning.

Commonwealth Era (Contemperary History) Edit

The Commonwealth of Greylyn was established in the aftermaths of Greylyn’s Revolution, founded on the basis of facilitating the transformation of Greylynian society to become increasingly community-oriented, drawing back to the people’s roots of the Erowok Agreement and even still the cooperative enterprises that rose out of the original aristocracy.

Government Edit

The Commonwealth maintains a federal system of governance which begins with Municipal Assemblies at the base, Regional Delegations at the middle, and the Central Committee at the top.

Main Article: Greylynian Justice System

Justice is delegated to local communities, with only the highest offenses being prosecuted on the federal level, such as treason. However, Greylyn’s model is primarily  geared towards rehabilitation rather than crime and punishment.
